What is puzzlehunt?

Think of a puzzlehunt as a treasure hunt where you need to solve a puzzle in order to move on to the next location. Each puzzle usually solves to a single word or short phrase and can range from your standard logic puzzles, knowledge of idioms, to finding clues in a set of pictures.

Do you have any examples of previous puzzles?

Why, what a good question! We’ve taken one of our puzzles from last year’s We The Puzzlers and adapted it to the web format. You and your team can try it out here. This particular puzzle is probably on the harder end of puzzles that you would encounter at a Palantir hunt.

When is puzzlehunt?

Because the hunt is remote this year, we’ve decided to run two large mega-hunts so everyone can compete with each other! One hunt will be during European hours while the other will be during US ones. The various hunt start times will be as follows:

How long will the puzzlehunt take?

Since this year is the 10th anniversary of the hunt, we decided to have 10 total puzzles including the meta. We estimate that the average team will take around 8 hours of total solving time but also expect a decent amount of variance.

The full length of 8 hours is probably too long for us, is there a shorter version?

For teams who may not have as much time, you always have the option to skip puzzles. Since we don't want the length of the hunt to be a blocker for folks who want to try it out, we have a suggested schedule of skipping puzzles 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9 to have a total puzzle solving time of 4 hours.

How do I sign up?

Click here to register a team. You can add additional folks onto your team when you register or you can add them later by logging in with your team credentials.

Can I have a team with less than 4 people? More than 6?

The puzzles in the hunt have been designed and calibrated for teams of 4-6 people. We believe that a team size in that range will allow everyone on the team to be an active participant. Of course the main goal here is to have fun, so if you would like to have more than 6 people on your team, we will allow it but your scores will not be tabulated on the leaderboard.

I have more questions that aren’t answered here.

That’s not a question, but if you have one, you can email us at foodforthought@palantir.com. Who knows, if it’s frequent enough, maybe it’ll end up on this page!
